The Alumni and Development Office (ADO) and the Career Development Centre of the Student Affairs Office (SAO-CDC) co-organized an alumni-sharing session titled “Corporate Experience Scheme (Communication)” recently. Alumni Ao Ieong Chong Hou, Class of 2016, Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing) and Cheang Ka Hou (Class of 2017, Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature) were invited as guest speakers to share the employment prospects of the media and creative industries, and their work experiences with students.

Creating humorous entertainment experiences

Currently, alumnus Ao Ieong is working as an artist in “Manner”. Speaking of his performance experiences, he encouraged the students to develop their readiness to try new things and do not be afraid of failure, as well as try to learn from the audience’s feedbacks, which could help to improve their weaknesses with passions and efforts to fulfill their dreams.

While alumnus Cheang shared his directing experiences in “Manner”, he suggested the students to decide the overall theme of the video before the production process, in order to give an effective presentation to the audiences. As creativity is always based on life experiences and observations, he also advised that students should enhance their horizons and creativity through reading books and newspapers.

Messages

These two young alumni encouraged the students who are interested in working in the media and creative industries to equip themselves with the skills to deal with stress at work, accept the objective opinions and continue to pursue their dreams without being affected by criticisms. Moreover, they should be more sensitive about the things happening around, in order to discover more eye-catching and inductive topics to grab attention and gradually establish their own position on the social media.
