On February 12, 2025, Professor Thomas Schneider, CEO of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and an internationally renowned expert in archaeology and cultural studies, along with his wife, visited the Department of Arts and Design at the University of Macau. They conducted an on-site inspection of the collection of over a thousand rare books on Mesopotamian and ancient Egyptian studies that they donated.

This collection spans four languages: English, German, French, and Chinese, covering authoritative works and professional journals from the late 19th century to the early 21st century. Many of the out-of-print titles feature special bookplates for identification, further highlighting their literary value. As a crucial foundation for art history and cross-cultural studies, this collection provides the University of Macau with valuable reference materials that will enhance academic discussions in related fields.

During the donation ceremony, Professor Li Jun, the head of the Department of Arts and Design, presented a certificate of appreciation to Professor Schneider in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sharing of academic resources. The collection of over a thousand rare books has officially been added to the library of the Department of Arts and Design, making it available for in-depth research by the university’s students, and international scholars.

During the visit, Professor Schneider engaged in discussions with Professor Wang Yudong and Professor Uros from the Department of Arts and Design to learn about the department’s curriculum and teaching features. Alumni and Development Office Director Lin Yuyi, along with representatives from the Global Affairs Office, also accompanied him during the visit.
